Doe Deere is a Russian born, New York City raised digital entrepreneur with a colorful vision.
As the CEO and Founder of eCommerce cosmetics company, Lime Crime, Doe Deere has set out to prove a point: Makeup isn’t there to encourage you to conceal your imperfections, it can be used as a powerful form of self-expression and freedom.
Deere’s beauty philosophy is not what someone might deem natural or even necessarily what supposedly “looks best”, but instead what connects with you, it’s about how it makes you feel, how it makes you unique, fun, and confident.
This is what spurred her to create her own line of bright and colorful, entirely cruelty-free cosmetics.
The result was Lime Crime Cosmetics and idea borne from Doe Deere’s passion for bold and vibrant colors (lime being her favorite) and the sentiment that her eye shadows, lipsticks, and nail polishes would be so bright they might as well be outlawed.
Lime Crime initially began as a small DIY fashion line Deere had launched on Ebay in 2004. During that time she modeled each and every one of her looks, and carefully constructed her brand, before launching officially in 2008.
At the time, Lime Crime was among the first digital cosmetic companies, as people believed that women wouldn’t buy makeup unless they could try it first. Doe Deere set out to prove the naysayers wrong, and succeeded, as Lime Crime quickly earned a cult-like following across the digital sphere, with legions of dedicated fans which have affectionately been christened Unicorns; a name Doe Deere describes as meaning “People who were born different, are aware of it and proud.”
Doe Deere’s experience as a woman guiding a small startup into an international internet sensation has made her an avid supporter of other women-owned businesses, and has inspired her to reach out to aspiring female entrepreneurs, offering advice and guidance.
